Building Connections in Canada: Meghan’s Silostop Visit

Meghan recently travelled to Canada to meet with Silostop distributors and learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the region’s agricultural industry. Despite a snowstorm that altered some plans, the trip provided valuable insights into how Silostop products are helping farmers and why strong distributor relationships are key to success.

Meeting with Canadian Distributors

The trip began with an in-person visit to Dairy Crop in British Columbia, where Meghan had the chance to meet the staff and witness firsthand the trust and loyalty they have built with their customers. Later, due to a snowstorm, her planned visit to More Than Just Feeds in Alberta was moved to a virtual meeting. Despite the change in format, the conversation was productive, reinforcing the importance of education and support in the silage industry.

Producer Engagement and Trust

One of the standout moments of the trip was seeing the level of engagement from producers attending Dairy Crop’s speaker events. Their eagerness to learn and explore new solutions highlighted the strong relationships Dairy Crop has built over the years. Trust between distributors and customers is crucial, and this visit confirmed that Silostop’s partners in Canada are deeply invested in helping farmers succeed.

Silage Challenges and Industry Trends

A key takeaway from the visit was the growing concern over Canada-US trade relations under the new administration, as policy shifts could impact agricultural supply chains. Another emerging trend in the market is the increasing presence of 2-in-1 products, which combine an underlay with a 5mil Black on White plastic in a single roll. Meghan took the opportunity to explain why these products aren’t ideal—specifically, that their oxygen barrier is insufficient, which can compromise silage quality over time.

Innovative Approaches to Silage Protection

Both Dairy Crop and More Than Just Feeds carry Silostop One Step, but they agree that the Two-Step process—using a high oxygen barrier (HOB) underlay with a separate top cover—delivers the best results. This approach offers superior protection, reducing spoilage and maintaining silage integrity more effectively than combined products.

Proven Success with Silostop

One of the most rewarding parts of the trip was hearing direct feedback from producers who have been using Silostop for years. Many expressed that they wouldn’t use anything else, citing consistent success with the products and their impact on feed quality and cost savings. This kind of loyalty speaks volumes about Silostop’s reliability and effectiveness.

Looking Ahead

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the visit reinforced the strength of Silostop’s distributor network in Canada and the value of ongoing education and product support. As the industry continues to evolve, ensuring that farmers have access to the best silage protection solutions will remain a top priority.
